You end up becoming exactly what you spend the most of your day thinking about. Your ideas not only determine who you are but also construct the world you experience. Because of this, you should direct your thoughts toward the things that you desire, rather than the things that you don’t want. To achieve our goals, we must train our conscious minds to concentrate on the things that we want, rather than the ones that we fear.
The advantages of practising meditation
Due Buddhists think that human thoughts are like to a monkey aimlessly swinging around trees, the mind is sometimes referred to as the “monkey mind” in Buddhism. This is because of the similarities between the two. They are impossible to pin down and never seem to stop moving about. The monkey may be brought under control and cured of its restlessness via meditation. You become conscious of the never-ending stream of ideas that enter your mind while you meditate on a regular basis. Through consistent practise, you may learn to create a gap between yourself and your ideas, which lessens the influence those thoughts have over you. As a direct consequence of this, you will feel more at ease and encounter less unfavourable feelings.
The advantages of practising mental imagery
Did you know that your subconscious is unable to differentiate between authentic experiences and those that are ‘faked’? This indicates that you may deceive your mind by recreating the sensations you seek via the use of visualisation techniques. The more specifics you can bring to mind, the more likely it is that your brain will accept the event as genuine. You can condition your mind to experience more positive emotions by using visualisation to elicit positive feelings such as gratitude, excitement, or joy. As we’ll see in more depth in the section titled “Conditioning your mind,” you can condition your mind to experience more positive emotions by doing so.
